1950's Western Women Hairstyles

I would say that women in the 1950’s had good hairstyles. You mostly see women with short hair than long.

Do not get me wrong I have seen women with long hair, but it was rare since the trend at that time was to have short hair that was curly. I am a full supporter with women with dark brown hair with curls.

I do like that they did not think of women with short hair as portraying too close to be looking like men or that they were copying their hairstyle. It is not a competition at all.

All genders can choose to have their short or long if they wish too. Society did have the image that women with short hair were housewives, medium for young, and long for Hollywood pin ups.

Which I do not think that women should abide by these. I am fond of women having short hair so that there is less to do with it.

I am personally one who likes to keep her hair short as I do not have patience for long hair. When going to salons in the 1950’s it was a lot easier to style or cut someone’s hair since it was so short.

Many women washed and styled their hair quick because of the length they had. Since short hairstyles require you to cut more frequently to keep it’s shape salons got a lot of customers and money.

Lot of people during the 1950’s rarely wore hats since it was advertised to the style and show off your hair. I am sure many stores sold out their hair products especially with hair curlers and hair spray.

I love how women curled their hair in the 50’s. It is having a beach wave vibe to what us in 2020 love to wear.

During this era, many women had poufy and luxurious hair that shined in the light. How earrings complimented the look and can be easily shown since many had short hairstyles.

In having short hair, they did look more mature and older which is not a bad thing. I think it also represented modesty and embracing being and looking like a healthy woman.

I have to say not everyone pulled off the short hairstyle and some did. I think the two who looked the best in short hair was Lucille Ball and Marylin Monroe.

I fully support short hair in women and no they do not look like men at all. In fact, it makes them look more feminine.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...

Bad Boys in the 1950s

These type of men/teens were the most idolized people in the 1950's along with some celebrities.  One celebrity in particular that had the bad boy style and his name was James Dean.  This type of outfit melted the girls/women's hearts at the time. Males would wear a leather or denim jackets, white or patter button up top underneath, blue or light jeans, either a quiff hair or leave it natural with some gel in it.  I think of the outfits that Johnny Depp would wear in his Crybaby movie with his slicked back hair, leather jacket, and a rebellious but hot vibe.  Today we label these type of people as bad boys but back in the 1950's they were called the greasers and apart of the greaser subculture.  Looking back at these photos you never saw older men wearing this style, it was mostly teenagers and young adults.  Those who dressed this way were definitely very popular in high school. Let's also not forget they added a cigarettes to compliment the look. If any o...
