Tiny Throw Pillow For Those Who Love The 1950's

This is a unique diner throw pillow for those who love the golden age! This small pillow has a green silk car with tires that have a white streak on them. There is a woman sitting on top with an orange top and a red flannel print on her skirt. This square shape has the words diner, burgers, and beer in a dark blue and green mix with some red too. The background looks dirty and grungy. My friend loves these types of 1950’s pillows and has collected many of them in her house. She was gifted one last year and she was so happy.

What Made Them Know They Loved Each Other

This video starts off with a woman brushing her hair in her vanity mirror and seems to be thinking about life.  They included nice and calming music which I do love. Both the boy and girl looked presentable but I do see a pattern that everyone in this era looked a lot like each other.  I like how they used teenagers to represent how it is okay to not know if you have fallen in love just yet.   When the boy said, "You are the only girl I dated in two months." It made me laugh because of how brutal it sounded at the moment.  It made me realize everyone experiences the feeling of being lost in your emotions and not knowing if you are sad, happy, in love, or mad.  What makes me feel fuzzy inside is how the daughter is comfortable in asking her mother about what love feels like.  How love is an amazing feeling but it can also bring bad emotions as well such as when you get your heartbroken.  Everyone experiences heartbreak at one point or another but it is how you deal with it tha

Valentine's Day Red Apron For Fifters

This is a gorgeous red pattern apron gift for fifters! The outfit has ruffles on both sides along with a red divider on the waist. This apron stops close to the neckline and extends to the knees. The skirt flows out nicely and has a long ruffle around the bottom. It has short sleeves and hugs the frame of a women or a man. My grandmother used to wear an outfit just like this one, but it was a different color. She used to have a purple one that my mother brought for her. My grandma was so happy to receive this gift.

What Influenced Cleanliness For Adults and Children

When things go south during the 1950's era, they make educational videos to educate the public. This is not a bad idea to do, I think we should have educational videos like this as advertisements along with those for car insurances, and more.  Specifically in 1951, many adults made a good film on how children need to have good hygiene and how to maintain it.  By watching these videos today they do have important information but seems like it would be terrifying for children at this time since I saw a giant tooth influencing kids.  I do have to mention, I love the narration they do for these videos they produced back in the 50's. The men have calm asmr voices. They do include videos such as brushing your teeth, washing your hands, showering daily, washing your dishes, and cleaning up your house.  What shocked me to find out was how bars of soap during this time were used for everything including laundry.  Many of these producers for these videos concentrated on how people were s

Blue and White Magazine For Those Who Love The Golden Age

This is a cool and insightful book gift for fifters! This book has blue, green, and yellow colors. There is a woman who is wearing what looks to be like a scarf and pink red lipstick. She is wearing a plaid dress and holding onto stems from a tree. Behind her you have the view of the beach. My little cousin has this same book from the store, and it gave her a lot of insight on pop culture through history. She may not love it, but it was a great gift for her.

Homemade Baby Formula's

Many mothers during the 1950's made their own formula recipes and if they were not using formula these babies were breastfed.  There was even reports on how many women used juice to feed their newborn babies at the time and this was not a good idea.  At the time parents thought it was good to do that and what is shocking to learn about was how dads were not allowed to attend their children's birth.  How fathers were also not allowed to be around when women were nursing, which is a silly concept.  During the 50's doctors recommended that parents keep their babies on a strict schedule.  This is good advice that many people give out to new mother's and fathers.  Babies often drank evaporated milk mixed with water and corn syrup instead of formula along with tea, vitamins at 10 days, and diluted orange juice at three weeks.  Back in the 1950's, babies who were fed formula often got juice because of its Vitamin C, which prevented scurvy.  Many of these newborn babies had

Red and Black Word Search Book

This is a fun and easy word search puzzle book for those who love the 1950’s! The book has a woman staring shockingly at the camera and she is holding onto a red old television. Inside the TV has a text print that gives the illusion it is inside. This cover has big letters that says, “The official 1950’s entertainment word search puzzle book.” I noticed there is a smaller text box at the bottom in a red color. My grandmother has a collection of word searches books from this era. She loves to sit in front of the television and do her word search puzzle every day for an hour.

The Procedure To Get An Abortion In The 1950's

Many women during the 50's had to get their abortions on the downlow. This means that they could not do their abortions in clinics like people do today. Lot of the women tell news articles today about how and where these abortions took place and many of them said in high-rise buildings.  They would rush into the apartment building and be so nervous because they had no idea what could happen.  The procedure could go wrong or they would get caught because somebody snitched. Many of the women said as soon as they walked in the assistant would ask for the money and at the time it price was $250 for one abortion procedure.  Male doctors would do their surgery and it was mostly those who did not have American licensing just yet.  He would come in and ask you questions such as, "Are you sure you're pregnant? When was your last period? Have you had any miscarriages?" You would then go to the bathroom, empty your bladder, and take off your underwear. You were then placed on a

Sexy 2021 Pinup Girl Poster

This is a beautiful woman calendar gift for those who love the 1950’s! She has three red small flowers in her long dark hair and sitting on a little ottoman. This woman has two long gloves on her hands with red and white colors. Her nails are red to match and her small dress and pairs it with dark tights. She has tall heels with that are black and a bit of red. My guy friend has a calendar similar to the one just like this, but he has one with where the woman is blonde and is wearing a blue outfit. He loves to tease me about not looking at it.

Husbands were Spoiled in the Mornings

This woman who produces this 1950's morning routine video did a great job of capturing this era's vibe.  She even made the effort to put the month, day, and year of the day she was recreating. It starts off with her sleeping in bed and acting like she is waking up.  In her view you can see her vanity mirror on her dresser and beautiful antique knickknacks. She even had her hair in what looks to be a cap.  I have seen many of these morning routines before and people in the 1950's always made their beds and took pride in their houses being spotless.  Continuing on, this women in the video does the opposite and pulls back the blanket to, "air out." This took me by surprise.  What I love though is that she is wearing a fancy adorable nightgown. Then she puts on a bed jacket and states these were very common in the 50's.  It looks to be about a lacy see through cover up and is transparent, it is hard to describe.  People in the 1950's always opened up their cur

Easter Flower Dress for Those who Love the 1950's!

This is a stunning flower print dress gift for those who love the 50’s! The outfit extends below the knees to keep modesty alive. Also, with a black belt that hugs the waist and has wrinkles on the bottom of the skirt. At the top of this dress it is sleeveless and shows off the collarbones. This dress looks like it would twirl so lovely and would make any women look elegant. My best friend has this exact same dress but does not have a print on it. She likes to wear this outfit on her picnic dates with her boyfriend and it is so sweet to hear about how they danced in the grass together.

Men's Fashion was so Boring

Men's fashion only consisted of suits and sometimes loungewear. In my opinion it was nothing special.  I saw some photos of men who wore button up shirts and long shorts right above the knee. You would assume that they would be wearing it to only the beach but that wasn't the case. They wore them out of the house as well.  Many of them wore long pants and long sleeve shirts in the wintertime and almost all the time depending on the guy.  Compared to men today back in the 1950's men wore loose pants that did not squeeze the ankle as many of them do today.  Which is fine for me, I think men look great in both types of style pants and can wear them as they please.  There were some men who went for the typical bad boy look such having a leather jacket, blue jeans, and had their hair nicely slicked back.  This is the style of what James Dean always wore. Other men were all about suits and looking professional.  They had fancy hats, white button ups, black coat, tie, and loose pa

Skintight White Lingerie for Those who Love the 50's

This is a sexy white lace lingerie piece for fifters! I notice that this type of clothing has a flower print and has an opening in the middle. This part is smooth and is without any substance on it. This piece has two straps on the side that are meant for tights and have metal at the top and bottom. The material is stretchy and is so adorable. My friend has lingerie clothing just like this one and when she wears this, she has a lot of confidence. She always tells me her boyfriend melts when she is in this piece.

Marriages Only Consisted of Men and Women Together

This film starts off with talking about how people in the 1950's spent their leisure time with television and hanging out with their families. During this era, it talks about how in America their ideal imagine of what a family looked like was a father, mother, and several children.  There was never a mention about a lesbian or gay couples with children, which I find to be sad.  As well as African American couples with children to be as a family but only seemed to show those of white skin and consisted of a man and women couples.  What I do like though is that they advertise about couples staying together within their marriage and making it work.  They do not show couples who have split nor have any step parents. The ideal image is having two parents working hard in their marriages and raising their children together.  Do not get me wrong I do advocate for couples to get divorced when their marriage is unhealthy and they cannot fix it anymore or they think it is best for their child

5 Top Heels From the Baby Boom Era

During the 1950's women used to have shoes that were smaller than the average heels for women today.  I do have to say they did have great and creative patterns or shapes for people within the 50' era.  1) 1950's pumps These heels were the type that looked like ones that you wore to work or went for business meetings. They have a long shape especially in the front and were small in the heel department.  It was meant for women not to be too tall but not to hurt your feet lots either. Most women in this time period got them in a shade of black. 2) 1951 strappy heels I have to say these types of heels are so cute and adorable, I would have mistaken them for the Baby Doll pumps. They have straps that wrap around the ankle. Some of these shoes can come without straps. What they all have in common was the small heel and you could get them with a variety of colors.  3) Ankle Strap Wedges and Flat These types of shoes look more like sandals without the heel at the bottom but with a

Olive Green Dress for Fifters!

This is a beautiful long professional dress gift for those who love the 1950’s. The outfit has long sleeves that come to the elbow and covers the collarbone. I notice it has a scarf type material in betted in the dress. This unique clothing hugs the waist and looks smoothed out. This dress has a long skirt that reaches the knees and maintains modesty. I remember my grandma having an outfit just like this one, but it was in a blue color. She looked so pretty and so confident wearing this dress as well.

People in the 1950's Were not Clean

This video starts off with a medical doctor reacting to 1950's health films. As usual they use a narrator over the film. I would it was the trend back in the 50's to use narration for everything and I do like it in my opinion.  It starts off with the film of a young boy running with his dog and the reactor seems amused by this concept.  He pokes fun at the dogs name which was Mr.dorag. I have to agree that naming your dog this name is odd but it is cute as well.  Moves onto how back in the day there was an awareness for kids not to get overtired from playing too much outside.  In today's world children are more at home with their iPads or watching television all day and not ever outside anymore. This doesn't speak for all children but the majority.  The next film that should be discussed is how people used singing in commercials to spread awareness or to go along with a product someone is selling. Which is not uncommon as we still use this tactic today but not as much a

Medium Green Cookbook for Those who Love the Golden Age

This is a cute green and peach colored cookbook gift for those who love the 50’s! I noticed two drawings of a man and women that are the characters of Lucy and Ricky. There is a big heart in the middle of them that says, “I Love Lucy.” There is a pattern of kitchen utensils that are a mix of green and peach colors. How there is two what looks to be like snowflakes on the side of the drawings of the two people and have the word cookbook at the bottom. My nana has a cooking book just like this one, but it has the colors purple and orange. I remember her making big holiday meals with the recipes that are featured in this book.

The First Man Ever to Use Insulin as a Murder Weapon

William Dale Archerd was born on May 5th, 1912. He came into the world in Dardanelle, Arkansas, United States.  Archerd was labeled as an American serial killer who killed three people with insulin injections from 1956 to 1966 in California.  It is said that he was the first to be convicted of the use of insulin as a murder weapon in the United States and it is theorized in three more cases.  William early life consisted of him being interested in medicine but did not have the discipline to be a doctor that dealt with medicine nor had the money to go through college. He did work in a mental hospital from 1940 through 1941 as an assistant where patients were treated with insulin shock therapies.  I would assume this is where he got his love of insulin came in and gave him the idea to want to experiment on his victims. During 1950, Archerd was convicted to five years on probation for possession of morphine in San Francisco.  As time went on he was parole was revoked, he escaped prison an

Making a Sandwich the 1950's Way

The video starts off with an old style television, our screen point of view is in black and white, and with light music.  The music reminds me of Wii loading screen jingle. Afterwards they color our screen and show us a sentence, "Let's Make a Sandwich." Goes on to say that sandwiches are necessary and that it is Americanized. It shows two children drinking a soda and eating a wrapped sandwich.   They show a mother and daughter on our screen and they demonstrate how to make a good and proper sandwich.  The view is of all of their ingredients on the table in front of them and they are both dressed in their accurate attire. The mother brings out the bread and the narrator has to say everything they are doing but does not include their thoughts on making the sandwich. The writers of this commercial, I guess you could say is demonstrating that women are the only ones who do the cooking and they have to in order to feed their family.  There is no footage of men or boys helping

USA Puzzle Box For Kids and Adults

This is a larger piece puzzle gift for those who love the 1950’s! The puzzle has many drawings of everything regarding the 50’s era. Including Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. They involve Elvis Presley, Marylin Monroe, the white house, the American flag, bicycles, and so much more. This box is designed in a colorful and bright way that it catches your attention. My little cousin has a puzzle box like this but hers is 100 pieces instead of a 1000-piece container. It reminds me of her as she used to collect many of these and loved piecing them together.

Top 5 Cars in the 1950's!

1) 1951 Studebaker Champion This car was produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend Indiana from 1939 through 1958. It was popular since it is a full size car and could be great for those who had a family.  This car looks like it is from the future and would be great for road trips as well. It comes with a variety of colors and suit it very well too.  2) 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark This car was produced by a company named Buick and first came out in 1953. Many people loved this car because not only was it fancy as you drove by but was great for taking the whole family to places.  While not all were built as the designated family car there were ones that were known as a muscle car. This vehicle came in many different colors and were the focus on movies as well.  3) 1953 Porsche 550 Spyder This sports car was produced by Porsche from 1953 through 1956. Many men loved to buy this car and to show off their material wealth.  It was even stated that James Dean the actor had this

This 2021 paperback hang up booklet would look great in his home.

50's Homes Sound Scary

During the 1950s houses were so different compared to ones today. Many of them contained popular colors such as pastel, Scandinavian, and moderns. Kitchens were usually had lots of pastel cabinets, floors, tables, chairs, and soaps.  While 50's bathrooms had tiled pastel and accented dark colors.  Others had red or colored carpets and brick walls in their living rooms.  It seemed that every room had to have a window and were smaller in size for a family home.  The 1950's style homes were built with wood shake or wood shingle roofs. The bathrooms were built to be indestructible.  These house had great charm and charisma when just gazing at them and the neighborhoods were well established too.  It is said that houses during this era were more affordable to middle and lower classes than the newer ones. One thing I have to say is they kept their houses and front yards spotless and kept them looking amazing.  Compared to our houses today the 50's houses were much more simpler an

Peachy Dress Gift For Fifters

This is a stunning peach and white button-down dress gift for fifters! The short sleeves that are great for summer and the collar tucked into the neck to have the appearance of modesty. Since she has passed, I do keep looking at those photo’s and seeing her living her best life.

55 Million People Couldn't Watch TV

Television during the 1950's were very expensive and their audience was generally affluent.  At the beginning during 1949, Tv's were priced to $500 to $600 per set.  Many poor families did not have access to televisions when they first came out since they were this expensive.  Lot of those who were wealthy easily attained a TV and this caused televised programs to create shows catered to them.  As time went by to 1953, televisions became priced to $200 to $300 and this caused more people to buy these TV sets. Therefore, catering to middle class families more than those who were wealthy raised more money coming in.  At the start of the decade of the 50's, there were 3 million TV owners and by the end of it, there were 55 million who watched from home.  I would say it was a good choice to lower the price of televisions as they got more revenue and more people to tune into these stations.  The invention of this helped people in this era shape what people thought what was a per

Valentine’s Day Shower Curtain for Those who love the Golden Age

This is lovely black and white printed curtain for a bathroom gift for fifters! There is a woman with curled hair and pearls that is dancing with her husband. She has a polka dot dress and is looking at him with loving eyes. Her husband has dark hair that is pushed back and is wearing a beautiful suit. He is looking at her with admiration and I notice there is a star in the left corner. My friend has a shower curtain just like this one and it has color instead of a black and white filter. The woman is dancing with her husband and my friend always says she imagines her partner looking at her like this man does to his wife.

The Hard Life of Teenagers

It is said that since of the booming economy, parents could now help their children achieve more than they themselves had.  Parents encouraged their teenagers to finish highschool and paid the way for them to attend college.  Many teens during this time period had lots of freedom and were the sneakiest out of all of the generations. Many of them obtained cars from either their hard earned money or from their parents.  They used these cars to be sneaky and to drive where there was no witnesses and have a make out session and sometimes escalated to intimacy.  Many of these students during the 1950's had house parties and the purpose was to make out, use drugs, and drink to have fun.  Some slang words that they used were cruisin' for a bruisin', knuckle sandwhich, daddy-O, burn rubber, party pooper, and cool cat.  The 50's for teenagers were so much fun compared to others and lucky as well as it was almost a perfect snapshot of a certain segment of American Society at a pa

Black Colored 50’s Accessories for fifters

This a unique box of items that were worn in the 1950’s! I notice there is a pair of glasses and sunglasses. Along with three pairs of polka dot earrings and a silk scarf as well. At the left corner there is a black and white printed headband and a pair of gloves too. There is a total of eight items in this accessory box. My grandmother used to have many of these style of gloves in her closet. When she would show them to me as a child, she would smile so bright and tell me stories of how she got them.

The Ugly Topics in the 1950's

Coming up on number one is Nylon stockings with the seams up the back and the girdle or garter belt that one needed to wear hose.  Movies and television shows were in black and white. No options for color back in the 50's until the later years.  White gloves were often required and no trousers were to be seen in public. If you were naked out in the streets you would be disowned.  Popular hairstyles of this era were a ponytail or one like the actress Lucille Ball.  Lots of women wore their hair up and this gave them the appearance to look older.  Girls and ladies wore aprons for many of the household chores and it looked unfashionable. Schools were segregated in the 1950's and it was very common that children did not finish highschool.  Kids back in this era had stricter rules and grew up way quicker than many children today.  People had to wear modest clothing and always look presentable.  Racism was a thing back in the 50's and you did not see much African American televis

Blue and Red Word Search Book

This is an awesome booklet for those who love the 50’s! It has many pages to keep your brain busy by searching for words with just your eyes. I noticed that is has yellow wording and an arrow indicating to open the book. The front page has labeled the 1950’s on it and the author has made sure to put their name on it. At the top right corner of the red/yellow square you see a star shape. My sister loves to do crossword puzzles and she has a collection of them in her closet. It reminds me of seeing her use them at her doctor’s visits.

5 Restaurants that Opened in the Fifties and are Still Around Today

1) Wendy's  Wendy's opened in 1969 and stayed open from then on still in 2021. Many of their customers choose from burgers, french fries, chili, drinks, and their special frosty.  In the 1960's, they did not have the same logo until it was created in 1969 and worded it with, "Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers." It stuck this way until 2007 when they stuck with only the company name Wendy's. 2) McDonald's   This fast food place was created in 1948 and they offered a simple selection for their customers including hamburgers and fries along with a drink. This tactic was gonna get them started and then progress into more meals and deserts.  Today compared to the 1950's people order fries, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, ice cream cones, chicken nuggets, etc. Back in the day, many people did not go through drive throughs but only to physically walk into these fast food restaurants and order a quick meal. 3) Chick-fil-A This restaurant came into fusion in 1946

Pastel Pink Dress for Those who Love the Golden Age

This is a wonderful vintage outfit for fifters! The dress has a sheer top cover over that hides spaghetti straps. At the top it also has a solid color of pink on the collar. Coming down to the middle part of the dress it hugs the waistline and the bottom of the outfit flows outward. Along with the nice wrinkles that cover the lower part of the skirt. This dress reminds me of the one my grandmother used to wear in her old black and white pictures. She always said that this style of outfit was her favorite at least when she used to be skinny when she was young.

The Strict Rules to Look Presentable

What is cool but shocking to me was how they made a film on how to be well groomed.  I cannot think of any other videos that would have a guide to be well taken care of and even how to stay clean like this.  I do not even think our generation today has a detailed video like this and teaching others to be well groomed.  The film starts out in a black and white filter and it was produced by Coronet Instructional Films.  It starts out with a woman in her nice high heels in the house and it looks like she does not have any tights on but seeing from this era, I think she does.  I noticed her hair is curled and her room is well presented and clean. She seems to be dusting her dress which could mean she's getting the lint off? Dawn checks to make sure that her legs are shaved by leaning down and skimming her hand down her to her ankle.  Which indicates that she wants to make sure she has no hairs sticking out from her legs as it is not seen as looking presentable.  In this video, they put

Vintage Local Call Payphone for Fifters!

This is a stunning black and silver Crosley phone line for those who love the 1950’s. The phone has a wheel of some sort to turn to which numbers you’d like to dial. Along with how much the payphone costs to make a call. It comes with a hook for the phone line and at the bottom an area to stick your coin or coins in. Beside it is where you can collect the money you stashed in and has a long cord connected to the phone holder. My grandma used to buy phones like this one for me when I was younger, but she thought it was a toy phone instead of a real one. She ended up using this style of phone anyway as she had grown to like it.
