This wine glass comes in somewhat of a box and includes some strings on it too. The main piece though has a wide circle opening and has a nice shape for your fingers to hold. My friend has a collection of wine glasses in her kitchen that she always talks about. The small wide glasses are her favorite it looks like the top of a regular tall glass but without the stem.

How To Pin Curl Your Hair Like in the 1950s

In this video, this woman starts explaining firm rollers are more for if you want lots of waves and the curls are tight.  The pin curls are more for those who want lose curls and smoother on top and lots of rolls at the bottom. To have the hairstyles just like women in the 50's, you will need lots of bobby pins or a pin curling hair clip and the more you have of these the better.  You will also need a comb, a spray bottle of water, and a hairbrush.  It is recommended you wash your hair and let it dry somewhat so it will hold longer in your hair until the next time you choose to wash it.  Next, you take a small strand of hair and you turn it inwards so it makes a circle. You continue this until the circle bunch of hair is to your scalp and pin it in this position.  Once you are doing the curls throughout your head make sure the curls are facing the front, which is towards your head and not away from your head.  One thing that is crucial is that you do not do this hairstyle before g

Why 50s Deserts Should Be on Modern Day Walls

These are beautiful posters gift for those who love the 1950’s! The picture boards have four different deserts that are for sale. There is strawberry, root beer float, hot fudge, and vanilla shake. All of them have whipped cream and are of affordable prices. They all seem to have a rough but straight to the point font and all of them look super yummy. My friend has a poster similar to these, but she only has two. She got them from her mother in law as a birthday gift and she always love when she gets gifts from her.

Top 5 Stories Set in the 50s You Cannot Put Down

Some books about the 1950's are not that well written in my opinion as they leave some good details out from this era or do not have good enough information.  Others though are so detailed and are so interesting that you cannot put down not matter if it is already 1:00am. 1) Wishing you were here by Catherine Chant.   This novel is about how a woman who makes a wish that ends her in the 1950's. Where she tries to save a teenager from dying but gets caught up in knowing him. Which she eventually falls in love with him.  2) A 1950s Housewife by Sheila Hardy.   This book is all about the strict rules and expectations housewives had to do and abide by. How married life was like during the post-war period. What did women and men do to spice up their marriages as well.  3) Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.   Many people usually read this book in school but not for all. This book is about how a young man goes through adulthood while staying in NYC. We as readers see what happy time

St Patrick's Day 50s Dress

This is a festive green clover gift for those who love the 1950s! The skirt of this dress has a bunch of big and small clover leaves and has a white background on it. This plant has four dark green leaves and four lighter ones too. This outfit has three buttons at the top of this dress and has two black strings that come out from the top. The waist has a dark big strip that accentuates the figure and the skirt flows out nicely. My friend has a similar dress, but she has this in the color red. She loves to wear her dresses to 50’s style diners.

How To Get Dressed As A Women In The 1950s

Women in the 1950's usually woke up with robes or a see through dress in the mornings, I think the type of clothing depended on how old the ladies were.  Once they were up and around they took off their robe or dress and were left in their bra's and high-waisted panties.  These women would begin to put on a bit of a longer skirt with hooks hanging to fasten some tights that would come with a zipper.  This item of clothing was supposed to accentuate the hips and make them look wider. After this the ladies would put on their stockings, which they made sure to wear everyday and attach them to the hooks.  The next step would be to put a thinner skirt over the first skirt mentioned and this one extended along to the knee.  After this would come the dress that you have chosen to wear and this would cover up the two skirts and some of the tights.  What surprised me is that these dresses did not look like a thick material at all but of a thin material.  Since the dress was comfortable

50s Colorful Hoodie

This is a colorful and fun hoodie for those who love the golden age! The outfit has red, orange, peach, green, and blue colors. It is a big sized hoodie and has a huge front pocket. The front of this outfit has two strings that can tighten the hood and has a white print that says, “1950.” This hoodie looks comfy and cozy! My best friend has this outfit and she wear this when she does her college course online because she gets cold easily. She always tells me stories on how her boyfriend teases her for getting cold so quick.

How The Wives Were Not Special in the 1950s

This video starts off with a woman doing a montage of picking out her clothes, making dinner, and trying to bring in the audience's attention. She starts off with getting her husband's newspapers, books, and other things he likes to enjoy when he gets home from work. Many women nowadays would not go this extreme for their husbands but there are still some of them out there.  It seems sweet that the women back in the 1950's wanted to do these sweet gestures for their partners. What does surprise me is the amount of cleaning the ladies did while their husbands were at work and did not seem to do much else. I would have expected that women took a break within the day and read a book or gardened. Then again, people in the 1950's wanted to have their perfect lives shown to others and be represented to their husbands as well.  This is not to sound mean or rude but this is what their words and actions showed the public. The lady in this film then moved onto setting the table a

Coca Cola Straw Holder 50s

This is a cool and fun straw holder gift for fifters! The lid to this holder is of a silver color and made of metal. It has a glass covering over it and shines brightly in the light. At the bottom this straw holder has this candle like shaper of tin and has red and white straws inside. This decoration represents coca cola and can fit nicely in your dining rooms. My friend has this exact straw holder and she displays it on her window in her kitchen so everyone can spot it quickly. She talks about how she got this gift from her boyfriend’s mother. This is the smallest picture that would fit.

What Is A Pin Up Girl and What Did She Do?

A pin up girl is a person who is sexually attractive and usually a famous person that wears little clothes. A good example to compare is people who are Instagram models.  The difference is that women were less shamed about how their bodies looked back in the 1950's such as they did not nit pick about how a woman has arm fat or that she is too curvy. It was more they were judged about how they were showing their bodies so freely and wore scandalous clothes that turned their husbands heads.  Which today some people still do that but it is more encouraged now to show your body freely and not judge women on how much skin they show unless it is nudity.  Pin up girls mostly wore high-waisted bottoms to show off their curves and hips. They also included high-waisted skinny jeans with buttons on the sides, Capri pants high-waisted shorts, and pencil skirts.  It was so scandalous if a woman were to show their stockings, wore a deep V-neck, and showed any clothing items that represented ling

50s Merch Rock N Roll T-Shirt

This is an awesome rock and roll gift for those who love the 1950’s! The T-shirt comes in many sizes that can fit children and adults of any genders. This clothing item comes in a black color and has red mixed within it as well. It says, “Rock’ n’ Roll 1958 Classic.” This shirt has a big 50’s microphone and a CD player on the outside of it. My grandpa has one of these shirts hanging in his closet and he loves to wear it all the time. He always says, “Rock N Roll music was my favorite growing up and it still is.”

Two Popular Female And Male Baby Names From The 1950s

Coming at number one that is the most popular name for a boy in the 1950's is the name James. For a girl the number one name of this decade was Mary.  It is no surprise that Mary is the number one name that was most used for babies during the 50s and I am sure everyone had to add their last name for signing up for anything. The name James is not what I expected as a list of names that people came up with to name their children in this time period.  I honestly thought it would have been John or Charles since you have seen so many movies with these type of character names that represent earlier decades.  What surprised me the most was that some women named their baby girls Cynthia. This is not a name I would have thought blended in the 1950's era.  Another one to add to this list is a boy name Michael although watching some shows that were within the 1920's decade, I should have caught on to this sooner.  I know one thing for sure is that names can be shocking to hear about f

White and Black 50s Dress

This is a gorgeous dress for those who love the 50’s! The outfit has two straps that can be tied at the back and a bow at the waist. This dress has a long outward skirt and lots of black polka dots. This item of clothing has a white base and has wrinkles at the bottom of the skirt. At the top it has a black almost heart shape to fit the mold of a woman’s chest. My friend has this exact dress and she wears this so much on her dates with her boyfriend. He also wears 1950’s clothes everywhere too. It is so cute!

The Most Hated Man That Ruined The 1950's Medicine

This man named Martin Shreli was a 32 year old chief executive of Turing Pharmaceuticals at the time when he was the most hated. He was labeled as the, "morally bankrupt sociopath, scumbag, garbage monster." An these were the names that weren't the worst in this time period for Mr. Shreli.  All these death threats and harsh name calling was because his company acquired the rights to Daraprim and he decided to raise the price for a drug so it was not affordable to people who really needed it.  This drug that was developed in the 50's was the best treatment in this time period for a rare parasitic infection called toxoplasmosis. It was for people who had weakened immune systems such as people with Aids who have come to rely on this medicine.  This medicine costed $13.50 and when Mr. Shreli raised it to be $750 a pill. This is such a dramatic increase and nobody would have afforded this drug.  Many people were upset and outraged at this high price for a pill. The public

Vintage Denim 50s Hat

This is a cool and rugged hat for those who love the 1950’s! The vintage hat has a denim print and lengthens from your head. It has the sentences, “vintage 1950.” This hat is small and fits just right on anyone’s head. It does not have too many wrinkles and looks stylish. My grandpa has many hats in his closet collection, and he loves to admire them every time he walks into his room. He once told me that he bought a hat from Japan and it was $6.50.

Etiquette Rules That Are Incredibly Unfair For Children

These rules paint the picture that during the 1950's children have no rights and should not be taken seriously at all.  The first etiquette rule is that children should been seen but never heard. Kids in the 50's knew to wait until they were spoken to respond.  Otherwise they were expected to sit and listen but to never interrupt at all.  Next, is that children should never wear sweatpants to the dinner table.  I think this is an unfair rule as what if kids want to get ready for bedtime to occupy their time and then eat their dinners.  How children have to shake adults hands not matter who they are when they walk into the room.  Some kids could feel uncomfortable shaking a hand of a person they heard conversations about or how they seem to be creepy for their liking.  Lastly, the notion that children should write thank you notes for the gifts they receive. This I think is just unnecessary as a child could just say thank you right then and there and be done with it.  Kids will f

The Ultimate Guide to Look Like a Bad Boy in the 50s

As you know from my last post that being a bad boy/greaser is not that hard to do but obtaining those items though is difficult.  One item that you will need for sure is a leather jacket .  This will piece the whole outfit together and is essential in becoming a greaser from the 50's. Next, is obtaining some plain blue or black jeans.  These do not have to be perfect at all and can be baggy or skinny jeans as your 1950's pair of pants.  I also forgot to mention for shirts is it is key to getting a white top. This is an item of clothing that everyone has in their house but there are options to choosing a pattern one just like this one guy in this photo.  The pattern may not be the exact one but it is good to put in your own style as well.  Finally on to the shoes. Greaser men shoes have two options they have the shiny black stylish shoes or the converse running shoes.  Both are fun and look like you are apart of the greaser 1950's club.  Men can dress however they want, so

Bad Boys in the 1950s

These type of men/teens were the most idolized people in the 1950's along with some celebrities.  One celebrity in particular that had the bad boy style and his name was James Dean.  This type of outfit melted the girls/women's hearts at the time. Males would wear a leather or denim jackets, white or patter button up top underneath, blue or light jeans, either a quiff hair or leave it natural with some gel in it.  I think of the outfits that Johnny Depp would wear in his Crybaby movie with his slicked back hair, leather jacket, and a rebellious but hot vibe.  Today we label these type of people as bad boys but back in the 1950's they were called the greasers and apart of the greaser subculture.  Looking back at these photos you never saw older men wearing this style, it was mostly teenagers and young adults.  Those who dressed this way were definitely very popular in high school. Let's also not forget they added a cigarettes to compliment the look. If any of these males

Wild Flower 50s Dress

This is a wild and flowery gift for those who love the 1950’s! The dress is long and extends towards the knees. It has a U-shape at the top of this outfit and hugs the waist nicely. This skirt goes outward and makes for fun in twirling in this dress. It resembles some spaghetti straps and bring out the color of anyone’s eyes. Although this may not be the dress for some, there are some would love this outfits. I know for sure my grandmother did, she loved wearing this dress everywhere and it reminds me of her.

1950 Home Rules They Followed

Many people in the 1950's lived simply and it is what most of us would want in the modern world of 2021.  Everyone had a routine that they followed such as making our beds when you woke up, take a bath, cook breakfast, etc.  Once in a while they would change up their routine to have a variety and not to get bored but for the most part they never strayed away from their routines.  This was true, especially those with children. They always said that kids need stability and a routine or else they were cranky and rebellious.  Many people from the 1950's were all about their houses being so spotless and were to be shown off to others as well.  They always followed the mantra of cleaning up after yourself as you went and making sure you had good cleaning habits.  Lots of educational advertisements at the time wanted the public to wake up and dress in presentable clothes, it did not matter that you were a housewife.  You had to look and had to have the attitude that you are a modest a

Women Who Were Considered "Fat" in The 50s Are Labeled as Skinny Today

What is good about this video is that they do not shame you because you are overweight but they try and tell you that your health is at risk. They seem to care about your health and weight but this may be just this film they produced.  The narrator expresses the concern that excessive calorie intake can cause you to have a lower lifespan.  How men and women should not eat too much and stay fit not only for themselves but their children too.  Looking at what the 50's called "fat" seems to be skinny in the modern age today and they look healthy.  They do not have rolls that break the clothes nor seem to have them altered to their body shapes.  This video caters more towards older people as they look at a picture frame from when they used to be young and thin.  Although I do not think that older people should be bashed a lot but I think that they do what is right for their bodies and health.  Elders do not have good metabolisms like they did when they were younger and people

1950s Common Alcohol Glasses

Many people drank lots of alcohol during the 50’s era. Mostly men though as woman would have been criticized if they drank too much. As they had to be sober and fully aware to take care of the children. One glass that is popular is the 1949 vintage whiskey glass. It is a small, but it can contain lots of alcohol. 1950 Scandalous Fashion

You would think that 50's fashion did not have many restrictions but that is a false assumption.  There was some hidden pieces of clothing that were scandalous at the time and many people were criticized so much for them. One that made huge headlines were coned bras and the reason these bras got so much hate was because it resembled a lot to nipples poking through the fabric.  This clothing item made people distracted and disgusted by looking at this piece.  I can only imagine what the older ladies thought of this clothing trend back in the day. Another clothing outfit that was widely criticized was a dress that had too deep of a V-neck line.  Many women were bashed because they exposed too much of their breasts with these sharp necklines.  Which makes no sense to me but people had different opinions back then.  Wearing no make up made lots of controversy as women were supposed to look presentable not only for their husbands but for the public.  Women who wore a bare face were bash

50s Valentine's Day Make Up Look

During the 1950's, they loved using red lipsticks and everyone wore a red lip at one point or another.  To recreate a 50's make up look is to include a red lip . This color of red is shiny and not too bright but not too dark either.  They used this type of red to appear youthful and attractive to men. As you know woman wanted the appearance of minimal make up. During this time period women wanted fuller eyebrows. The used a dark eyebrow pencil to darken woman's eyebrows at the time.  They seemed very particular on what products they used on the daily basis. Mascara for those in the 50's was everyone's favorite accessory.  Just a little bit of mascara carried women and girls feminity and beauty for men. Moving onto blush and you know many people in this era loved this make up product a lot.  What was interesting to find out was that blush was used to be put on the eyebrows back according the 1950's magazines.  Many women went for the rosy and pastel hues of blu

What Was Valentine's Day Like in the 1950s

Many people in this era loved Valentine's Day not only because was it is a fun holiday but it is a celebration of love! Everything was decked out for this fun day with Valentine creations such as small decorations, valentine cards, hanging hearts in store windows, and more! You saw lots of couples walking the streets holding hands, families spending time together, and store owners with smiles on their faces for obtaining lots of sales.  Many children in school made Valentine's cards to give out to their classmates and created big posters of a baby cupids to take home.  Celebrity pinup girls were posed for this special holiday with hearts in the background or wearing having hearts on their clothes.  Marylin Monroe in particular did a Valentine's Day photo shoot with two big hearts as her backdrop. She was wearing high-waisted shorts, a small crop top with strings, boots, and a cute hat.  There was many Broadway movies that came out during this holiday and one that was recogn

A Doctor's Perspective On Illnesses From The 1950s

Illnesses from the 50's were not as bad as the Spanish flu, which I assume was in the early 1900's. The common illnesses for people back in the 1950's were scarlet fever, diphtheria, typhoid fever, yellow fever, rheumatic fever, pellagra, influenza, smallpox, and cholera.  For some people it was not surprising or was even expected that children died from measles or from a whooping cough. A doctor from Chicago states that these illnesses from the 50s were feared as much as the public feared AIDS back in the 80's or 90's. When someone catches the scarlet fever they do not feel good at all, they become pale, have a red rash, and a pallor around the mouth. After this they just die.  As you know many people in this time period were cautious about illnesses like the pandemic today.  Although there were still many people who did not take diseases seriously nor believed in them since they have not gotten them yet. Others were forgetful about these illnesses or were not care

Fifties Style Fashion For Men

As it is known many men lived within the era of the second world war and were trying to cope with their PSTD from it.  This although did not stop their good fashion sense. I am pretty sure they used clothing as a way to distract themselves. Lots of the men had clean-cut and conservative outfits that was suited for them to looking like businessmen.  It seemed as if they wanted the world and other neighbors to see that they are smart and provided well for their families.  Many of their style of clothing icons were Elvis Presley, James Dean, Marlon Brando. These celebrities had the aesthetic of being playful and living life to the fullest. People from the 50's went with the preppy style of clothes that played off a youthful culture that was inspired by students in college. During this era, many men wore oversized shirts to give the look that they were fuller and healthy. These were mostly worn during the day.  Another popular clothing item was the double-breasted suits. This was so me

Top 5 Dances From the 1950s

1) The Boogie Woogie This type of dance style is like swing dancing that is fast and this was also labeled as, "Jump Swing." This dance is usually with the music genre the blues.  Along with the Boogie Woogie music with fast tempos. The dance includes jumping, hopping, stomping, and much more. 2) The Bop The Bop dance is mixed with a jazz genre and is like the Jitterbug in a sense. This dance move used many moves as he swing and was usually done with almost no touching too. 3) The Bunny Hop This dance move became a big hit during the 1950's. It was danced to by Ray Anthony, which came out in 1952 and this included a step by step guide on how to do this dance move.  To do this dance style all you need is the energy to do it and to make sure you do not break any bones. This dance move is pretty simple. 4) The Chalypso This type of dance w

Elvis Presley 50's

Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8, 1935 and he died on August 16, 1977.  He was considered as a big star in the era of the 1950's. Presley is labeled officially as an American singer.  This man is also known for being a musician and an actor. He married Priscilla Presley from 1967 through 1973.  It is fascinating to know that Presley has four grandchildren. Before he became this big singer he was actually traveling on the road with his bandmates.  What he is known for is his style of music was labeled as rockabilly. He had the ability to combine country music with the blues.  It is shocking to find out that Elvis never wrote any of his songs according to an article.  What is known is that his label gave him the right to have co-writing credit on many songs because his management demanded song writers give 50% of the credit before Presley would record it.  Elvis's biggest hit during his prime was called, "Don't Be Cruel." Many people loved him during the 1950&

What Serial Killers Did Back in their Primes

This is an awesome red and blue gift for fifters! This hardcover American serial killer book is thick in pages and looks eye-catching. The wording epidemic reminds me of the pandemic that we are currently in right now. The book has a newspaper pattern on the front and the sentences are in big bold letters. This is a book that contains killers from the 1950’s through the 2000’s. My cousin has a book similar and this reminds me of her because she loves to read all about what serial killers did back in their primes. Which seems scary but she seems sane.

What Purses Women Wore In The 1950s

Jasmine Chiswell's YouTube videos are so well put together and she has such accurate information on 1950's things and mannerism's.  This film starts off with her talking about her dogs which are so cute and adorable. Then she goes on to talk about how she is doing a, "1950s vintage handbag haul." Jasmine has her makeup nicely done as women did theirs back in the 50's as well as her hair.  What was so interesting to know was how she lives in Marylin Monroe's house, which she does not talk about in the video but thought I'd mention it because it is cool to hear about.  She shows us her vintage bag and it looks so unique. It looks like a bag that would not be in the 1950's era but more futuristic like today's handbags.  The bag is so shiny, cute, and small. Although you would not fit a whole book in there it is enough to put money and some bank cards in there.  Chiswell's purse has a little clasp and not a zipper that most bags have now. It l

Cocaine Was Sold Freely In Coca Colas

Cocaine is a stimulant drug that is made from leave of the South American coca plant.  Many people during the 1950's people did not use cocaine that much because it was outlawed around the era of 1914.  During this time it was said that African Americans were the ones who were the dangerous criminals since they used this drug the most.  The reason cocaine became illegal was because the community feared that southern women were in mortal danger of being attacked by cocaine African American men.  It was the Harrison Act that became the law and one of the first pieces of American legislation on the issue of drug regulation.  What shocked me to find out was the use of cocaine in soda and opium products. Many people in this era just took them without a second thought.  They did not know the harsh effects it has on the body now and how it makes you look older and unhealthy. Although Cocaine was banned many people were still using it and secretly snorting it all the time.  This is where t
