1950s Hairstyles That Were Popular and Easy

Thoughts on 50's Hairstyles Hairstyles back in this era were mostly shown of women with short curly hair.  They had big curls that made the volume in their hair rise and looked so shiny as well.  The women put curlers in their hair the night before while it was wet so once they took them out they would have lushish waves on the top of their heads. What is not talked about is that they did have long hair in this era.  Those who did produced the commercials and photoshoots just did not include these types of women/hairstyles as much. All of these women had lots of volume and head full of hair as well, I am quite jealous.  Those who had longer hair in the 1950's styled their hair with bigger curlers the night before as well.  I would have to say I love the look of both hairstyles and I found them so intriguing!  Women's Hairstyles in the 1950s Many of the women in this time period went for the short hair with curls as a way to look fancy and presentable....

How To Pin Curl Your Hair Like in the 1950s

In this video, this woman starts explaining firm rollers are more for if you want lots of waves and the curls are tight.  The pin curls are more for those who want lose curls and smoother on top and lots of rolls at the bottom. To have the hairstyles just like women in the 50's, you will need lots of bobby pins or a pin curling hair clip and the more you have of these the better.  You will also need a comb, a spray bottle of water, and a hairbrush.  It is recommended you wash your hair and let it dry somewhat so it will hold longer in your hair until the next time you choose to wash it.  Next, you take a small strand of hair and you turn it inwards so it makes a circle. You continue this until the circle bunch of hair is to your scalp and pin it in this position.  Once you are doing the curls throughout your head make sure the curls are facing the front, which is towards your head and not away from your head.  One thing that is crucial is that you do ...

Valentine’s Day Shower Curtain for Those who love the Golden Age

This is lovely black and white printed curtain for a bathroom gift for fifters! There is a woman with curled hair and pearls that is dancing with her husband. She has a polka dot dress and is looking at him with loving eyes. Her husband has dark hair that is pushed back and is wearing a beautiful suit. He is looking at her with admiration and I notice there is a star in the left corner. My friend has a shower curtain just like this one and it has color instead of a black and white filter. The woman is dancing with her husband and my friend always says she imagines her partner looking at her like this man does to his wife.

Black Colored 50’s Accessories for fifters

This a unique box of items that were worn in the 1950’s! I notice there is a pair of glasses and sunglasses. Along with three pairs of polka dot earrings and a silk scarf as well. At the left corner there is a black and white printed headband and a pair of gloves too. There is a total of eight items in this accessory box. My grandmother used to have many of these style of gloves in her closet. When she would show them to me as a child, she would smile so bright and tell me stories of how she got them.

Sexy 50’s Calendar for 2021

What an interesting green and white booklet gift for fifters! This woman poses with ease as she snaps a photo back at the photographer. She is wearing a green dress with stockings. She has a big camera beside her and lifts her dress with the cord and hold‘s what clicks to snap a picture. This lady has red curled hair and is holding a bird stick in her hand. This photo reminds me of the crude shirts my guy friend has in his house and he wears them proudly out too. I am sure he would love this calendar and would hang it up in his room.

Valentine’s Day Hair Clip for Fifters!

This is a unique blinged red hair clip gift for those who love the 1950’s. The hair clip has many red feathers along with two black feathers blended in. It has a few small jewels that compliment the flower. This rose has a plastic covering to it as well as a smooth feel on your fingers. Whoever created this product has added more feathers on the right side. My great grandmother had lots of these in her closet and she loves red, so she had a good amount of these in this color. It reminds me of when she went out one night and had everything red such as her dress, shoes, nails, and sunglasses.

The World's Heartbreaker

James Dean is a well-known American actor during the 1950’s and many women fawned over him including those in their 70’s. He is remembered as a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment and social estrangement as this all started when the film, he stared in came out called, Rebel Without a Cause. Personal details about this actor is he was an Aquarius, born February 8, 1931 in Marion, Indiana USA, died on September 30, 1955 at the age of 24. Dean was killed in Cholame, California, when a Porsche he was driving hit a Ford Tudor sedan at an intersection. He was 5’8 in height his nickname was Jimmy Dean. Pinup Girl Poster Gift for Those who Love Vintage!

Pinup Girl Poster Gift for Those who Love Vintage! This woman has a cute 50’s styled outfit. She has a blue hat, long V-neck striped pattern shirt, blue skirt, clipped tights, and black and white shoes. The background on this art has two clouds, symmetrical trees lined up and a lake. What I noticed next was the big fish and the log she is sitting on. From this poster she looks as if she is fishing and what is she fishing for? I would say fish, but others would disagree. This woman has bright red lipstick and curly hair as well. I imagine this art in a man cave since it gives off the vibe of sexual appeal. I do not want to categorize so I think some women would love this poster in their home as well.

Safiya Nygaard Covered the 1950's Accurately

Safiya Nygaard covered the 1950’s style so well and she was so respectful on all of the fashion from back in this time. She accurately looked like a replica of a woman in the 50’s. The hair, makeup, and clothing. I noticed that she looked at many magazines of all of the styles women wore in the 1950’s. There were many women who wore dresses with polka dots, flower prints, solid colored ones such as yellow, and many more! I like that she mentioned that during this time period there was good things about the 50’s but also bad things and situations. It was taught that women never left the kitchen, how they always looked after the children, and catered to their husbands. The information that I learned from this video was that birth control was given the okay to women in this era. I was shocked to find out these details as I had not come across this part in history just yet. All about the youth rebellion as well. Lots of women had more puffed out dresses in this time period compared to the ...

Children in the 1950’s Were Happier than Kids Today

During the 1950’s children lived different lives than we do now. They left school early and most of them did not pursue college. Many children during this time period started to work at 14 years old and became a drop out. There was a small percentage of who went to college but compared to today many people need to have a bachelor’s degree to have a good job. Unless you have great connections to people who would hire you without much experience. In this era, getting a job was easier. You did not have to make a detailed and a long written out resume, but you did have to put your experiences down. Children at 14 years of age had no problem attaining a job. Since in the 1950’s still had the aftereffects of the Second World War many of their food rations were limited. Sugar was rationed until 1953 and meat came off a year later. I am sure parents were concerned about how sugar was rationed during this time but more for the meat. Since they wanted their children to have good ...

1950's Western Women Hairstyles

I would say that women in the 1950’s had good hairstyles. You mostly see women with short hair than long. Do not get me wrong I have seen women with long hair, but it was rare since the trend at that time was to have short hair that was curly. I am a full supporter with women with dark brown hair with curls. I do like that they did not think of women with short hair as portraying too close to be looking like men or that they were copying their hairstyle. It is not a competition at all. All genders can choose to have their short or long if they wish too. Society did have the image that women with short hair were housewives, medium for young, and long for Hollywood pin ups. Which I do not think that women should abide by these. I am fond of women having short hair so that there is less to do with it. I am personally one who likes to keep her hair short as I do not have patience for long hair. When going to salons in the 1950’s it was a lot easier to style or cut someone’s hair...
