50s Valentine's Day Make Up Look

During the 1950's, they loved using red lipsticks and everyone wore a red lip at one point or another.  To recreate a 50's make up look is to include a red lip . This color of red is shiny and not too bright but not too dark either.  They used this type of red to appear youthful and attractive to men. As you know woman wanted the appearance of minimal make up. During this time period women wanted fuller eyebrows. The used a dark eyebrow pencil to darken woman's eyebrows at the time.  They seemed very particular on what products they used on the daily basis. Mascara for those in the 50's was everyone's favorite accessory.  Just a little bit of mascara carried women and girls feminity and beauty for men. Moving onto blush and you know many people in this era loved this make up product a lot.  What was interesting to find out was that blush was used to be put on the eyebrows back according the 1950's magazines.  Many women went for the rosy and pastel hues o...

What Purses Women Wore In The 1950s

Jasmine Chiswell's YouTube videos are so well put together and she has such accurate information on 1950's things and mannerism's.  This film starts off with her talking about her dogs which are so cute and adorable. Then she goes on to talk about how she is doing a, "1950s vintage handbag haul." Jasmine has her makeup nicely done as women did theirs back in the 50's as well as her hair.  What was so interesting to know was how she lives in Marylin Monroe's house, which she does not talk about in the video but thought I'd mention it because it is cool to hear about.  She shows us her vintage bag and it looks so unique. It looks like a bag that would not be in the 1950's era but more futuristic like today's handbags.  The bag is so shiny, cute, and small. Although you would not fit a whole book in there it is enough to put money and some bank cards in there.  Chiswell's purse has a little clasp and not a zipper that most bags have now. It l...

Pajamas in the 50's are Stylish

What I love about the 1950’s is there many styles of pajamas. They have short dresses, long dresses, pants and long sleeve shirts and short shorts and short sleeve pajamas for women. For men they had robe long sleeve shirts and long silk pants, printed long sleeve shirts and pants, and long sleeve plain colored shirts and pants for pajamas. I am not sure for others, but I do not doubt that people during the 1950’s could have slept nude or with less clothing. Unless society restricted them too, which I do not think they did. From looking at photos from men and women from the 50’s in their PJ’s they have some cute outfits. Oddly comfy look to these styles as well. In advertisements they styled their models well and, in some magazines, they drew them out. I find it fascinating that they drew out their models at the time during this era as today we just use modern camera’s and do a photoshoot. I am sure it was much more complicated to draw out their models, print them out, an...

Safiya Nygaard Covered the 1950's Accurately

Safiya Nygaard covered the 1950’s style so well and she was so respectful on all of the fashion from back in this time. She accurately looked like a replica of a woman in the 50’s. The hair, makeup, and clothing. I noticed that she looked at many magazines of all of the styles women wore in the 1950’s. There were many women who wore dresses with polka dots, flower prints, solid colored ones such as yellow, and many more! I like that she mentioned that during this time period there was good things about the 50’s but also bad things and situations. It was taught that women never left the kitchen, how they always looked after the children, and catered to their husbands. The information that I learned from this video was that birth control was given the okay to women in this era. I was shocked to find out these details as I had not come across this part in history just yet. All about the youth rebellion as well. Lots of women had more puffed out dresses in this time period compared to the ...
