Homemade Baby Formula's

Many mothers during the 1950's made their own formula recipes and if they were not using formula these babies were breastfed.

There was even reports on how many women used juice to feed their newborn babies at the time and this was not a good idea.

At the time parents thought it was good to do that and what is shocking to learn about was how dads were not allowed to attend their children's birth.

How fathers were also not allowed to be around when women were nursing, which is a silly concept.

During the 50's doctors recommended that parents keep their babies on a strict schedule.

This is good advice that many people give out to new mother's and fathers.

Babies often drank evaporated milk mixed with water and corn syrup instead of formula along with tea, vitamins at 10 days, and diluted orange juice at three weeks.

Back in the 1950's, babies who were fed formula often got juice because of its Vitamin C, which prevented scurvy.

Many of these newborn babies had almost every liquid that people drink today just to fill up their bellies.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance. Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else? Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion. The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to. Bad Boys in the 1950s

These type of men/teens were the most idolized people in the 1950's along with some celebrities. One celebrity in particular that had the bad boy style and his name was James Dean. This type of outfit melted the girls/women's hearts at the time. Males would wear a leather or denim jackets, white or patter button up top underneath, blue or light jeans, either a quiff hair or leave it natural with some gel in it. I think of the outfits that Johnny Depp would wear in his Crybaby movie with his slicked back hair, leather jacket, and a rebellious but hot vibe. Today we label these type of people as bad boys but back in the 1950's they were called the greasers and apart of the greaser subculture. Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era. Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper. This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews.
