Weddings in the 1950’s were all about being modest and looking your best on your big special day. Many people during this era had church weddings and these were popular.
These church weddings consisted of strict rules they had to
follow regrading the outfits they picked out. The trend back in this time
period was to have a wedding dress that was shorter than the average dress.
It was one that showed a women’s ankle and shoes. When a woman
during the 50’s had this type of dress she was considered fashionable.
The men were styled in a tuxedo, shiny black shoes, and
their hair was nicely done. The groom and the bride always looked presentable and
stylish.
Since modesty was talked about a lot and many followed this mantra
women wore stockings and had sleeves on their dresses. It is surprising that during this era, they
allowed women to show their ankles on their wedding day.
On the other hand, it is not surprising as they promoted
women wearing dresses that do show their ankles and skin below the knee. I have
seen many ladies as well wearing shorts and shorter dresses.
I have also noticed that they wear bras that look pointy
which is kind of funny in my opinion.
Since there was women who followed the trend of shorter
wedding dresses there were some who had the traditional long dresses as well. Not
everyone followed this fashionable trend back in the 1950’s.
Though they did have the long sleeves as those who wore the
shorter dresses.
During this era, they slowly started to ration less of their
food, and many had bigger meals served and big cakes that they attained for
their aesthetic of their wedding days.
They were more willing to pay for more meals being served to
their guests. I know the celebrities at the time did everything big for their
wedding days. Huge cakes, lots of guests, and food.
The trend for cakes were to have one made of tiers on
platforms and covered in large amounts of frosting and decorations.
When someone got married in the 1950’s there was no such
thing as divorce. You stayed together and worked everything out regardless how miserable
you were.
No matter how many times a partner cheated, was a criminal,
etc. I honestly do not like this part because I think that if you were married
and you were miserable you should be able to get divorced without be shamed for
it.
