What Purses Women Wore In The 1950s

Jasmine Chiswell's YouTube videos are so well put together and she has such accurate information on 1950's things and mannerism's.

This film starts off with her talking about her dogs which are so cute and adorable. Then she goes on to talk about how she is doing a, "1950s vintage handbag haul."

Jasmine has her makeup nicely done as women did theirs back in the 50's as well as her hair.

What was so interesting to know was how she lives in Marylin Monroe's house, which she does not talk about in the video but thought I'd mention it because it is cool to hear about.

She shows us her vintage bag and it looks so unique. It looks like a bag that would not be in the 1950's era but more futuristic like today's handbags.

The bag is so shiny, cute, and small. Although you would not fit a whole book in there it is enough to put money and some bank cards in there.

Chiswell's purse has a little clasp and not a zipper that most bags have now. It looks somewhat like a picnic basket.

Once she opens it up it has a red cotton fabric and has a wide pocket on the top half. The bottom part looks like a nail polish container.

This is not very spacious but I think it looks so nice and beautiful. I can see many women wearing this purse on their wrists/arms.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...

As they had to be sober and fully aware to take care of the children. One glass that is popular is the 1949 vintage whiskey glass. It is a small, but it can contain lots of alcohol. Many people like this whiskey glass because it can obtain lots of ice. Another widely talked about glass is the 1950 vintage wine cup.  This glass is popular because this caters to women who love wine. It can hold a good amount of white wine and red wine. Many people use this glass during parties and other gatherings. The scotch glasses are the most popular out of everyone of these cups mentioned. This is because lot of men used scotch glasses in the 1950’s. Especially for those who went to the local bars. Lastly, the beer pint glass is the next favorite for people who like to collect 1950’s cups or alcohol in general. This beer glass is clear and looks styli...
