Would you Choose to be Male or Female in the 1950's?

For some, this may be a hard to answer since times have changed but I would choose to be a female in the 1950's. This is because I would not mind to be the homemaker who cared for the children.

I do not know if this is because I am more of a nurturing person or if I just like staying home compared to others but I do not judge if your opinion is different. I respect that we all have different perspectives on topics. I just would imagine myself with many children and living that family suburban life.

I quite like how people in this decade wanted to stay in marriage for a long term commitment and did just that. I believe they had a pinning ceremony meaning it is a engagement gesture and for the purpose of marriage.

Although women in this era were about weight and exercise, it is not extreme as it is today. These ladies had healthy women barring bodies and seemed to be proud of it as well based on photos I have seen.

I am fond of the notion of being feminine and dressing this way. I like girly things, flowers, doing my hair and makeup, etc. The full or pencil skirts are what I would love to wear along with a button down or prim sweaters.

It is also great that they did not pride in showing so much skin either, I don't know if it is just me but I like to have more reserved clothing. It is just what makes me comfortable. I am not one to be showing off my body with how I looked as I came out of the womb.

Based on what people did in this decade I would want to experience going to the drive-ins, listening to Elvis music, and being a fun and rebellious teenager during this time.

In this era, it is all about being outside and doing activities with close loved ones and making good memories. Although this is my opinion, I am interested in hearing yours so, would you choose to be Male or Female in this time period?

1950's Western Women Hairstyles

I would say that women in the 1950’s had good hairstyles. You mostly see women with short hair than long. Do not get me wrong I have seen women with long hair, but it was rare since the trend at that time was to have short hair that was curly. I am a full supporter with women with dark brown hair with curls. I do like that they did not think of women with short hair as portraying too close to be looking like men or that they were copying their hairstyle. It is not a competition at all. All genders can choose to have their short or long if they wish too. Society did have the image that women with short hair were housewives, medium for young, and long for Hollywood pin ups. Which I do not think that women should abide by these. I am fond of women having short hair so that there is less to do with it. I am personally one who likes to keep her hair short as I do not have patience for long hair. When going to salons in the 1950’s it was a lot easier to style or cut someone’s hair...

What Was Good About 1950's Cars?

I have to say that 1950’s cars look like they are from a whole different universe. What I love about these cars are the white streak around the front of each of the tires. You have many car brands such as the Packard, Mercury, Chevrolet Corvette, Hudson, Ford Thunderbird, Chevrolet Bel Air, Chrysler Imperial, Chrysler New Yorker, Buick Skylar, and more!  I personally have to say the Chevrolet Bel Air is my favorite looks wise. Many people who had cars in this era were more towards those with some wealth. I noticed that a lot of the percentage of people walked, biked, or took the bus to wherever they were going. Not everyone in the 1950’s had a car but those who did had some money. Lots of these cars were geared towards couples who had children as well. The cars back in this time period came in many colors, which I love! Today many people have bland colors on their cars. Which are their preference but cars with unique or cool colors really stand out. When looking through pictures of...

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...
