50's Era Morning Routine

This video that I have linked in this blog post is about a woman who looks about to be in her 20’s. I would say that she got everything right about what a morning routine was like back in the 1950’s.

There are people who are criticizing her that people in this era all had short hair, but I beg to differ with other arguments on this. Many women had long hair and short hair in that time period as there are evidence in older photos.

They had no advanced technology to look at their smartphones in the morning and did not have alarm clocks on their devices either. Lots of them woke up and started their day with opening the curtains.

I have noticed that people without technology during this era enjoyed the sunshine more in the mornings and throughout the day. Women got ready whether it is in their bathroom or in front of their vanity.

Which is normal to get ready anywhere in the house, but it was more common without a music playlist on a phone or a Bluetooth device. On the other hand, many did have radios for the news, talk about sports, and religion, etc.

The women mostly stayed at home and did the house chores while the men worked but this was not always the case. Some women worked in the 1950’s but they had limited jobs they could choose from.

Lots of them had the role of taking care of the family and the house. They were expected to be caring mothers and obedient wives. Which could be taken badly or be a positive to some but depends on who you asked.

Women in the 50’s could not have anything that distracted them from their house or family duties which can be having no friends, jobs, etc. Which seems harsh but I am sure there were some where they could work and care for their families.

In this video, the lady in her 20's has a bath running and most people in this period only had baths. Showers were not included in houses commonly until the late 1950’s or 1960’s. This part of information shocked me.

1950's Western Women Hairstyles

I would say that women in the 1950’s had good hairstyles. You mostly see women with short hair than long. Do not get me wrong I have seen women with long hair, but it was rare since the trend at that time was to have short hair that was curly. I am a full supporter with women with dark brown hair with curls. I do like that they did not think of women with short hair as portraying too close to be looking like men or that they were copying their hairstyle. It is not a competition at all. All genders can choose to have their short or long if they wish too. Society did have the image that women with short hair were housewives, medium for young, and long for Hollywood pin ups. Which I do not think that women should abide by these. I am fond of women having short hair so that there is less to do with it. I am personally one who likes to keep her hair short as I do not have patience for long hair. When going to salons in the 1950’s it was a lot easier to style or cut someone’s hair...

What Was Good About 1950's Cars?

I have to say that 1950’s cars look like they are from a whole different universe. What I love about these cars are the white streak around the front of each of the tires. You have many car brands such as the Packard, Mercury, Chevrolet Corvette, Hudson, Ford Thunderbird, Chevrolet Bel Air, Chrysler Imperial, Chrysler New Yorker, Buick Skylar, and more!  I personally have to say the Chevrolet Bel Air is my favorite looks wise. Many people who had cars in this era were more towards those with some wealth. I noticed that a lot of the percentage of people walked, biked, or took the bus to wherever they were going. Not everyone in the 1950’s had a car but those who did had some money. Lots of these cars were geared towards couples who had children as well. The cars back in this time period came in many colors, which I love! Today many people have bland colors on their cars. Which are their preference but cars with unique or cool colors really stand out. When looking through pictures of...

1950 Home Rules They Followed

Many people in the 1950's lived simply and it is what most of us would want in the modern world of 2021.  Everyone had a routine that they followed such as making our beds when you woke up, take a bath, cook breakfast, etc.  Once in a while they would change up their routine to have a variety and not to get bored but for the most part they never strayed away from their routines.  This was true, especially those with children. They always said that kids need stability and a routine or else they were cranky and rebellious.  Many people from the 1950's were all about their houses being so spotless and were to be shown off to others as well.  They always followed the mantra of cleaning up after yourself as you went and making sure you had good cleaning habits.  Lots of educational advertisements at the time wanted the public to wake up and dress in presentable clothes, it did not matter that you were a housewife.  You had to look and had to have the attitu...
