Post World War II

During the 1950’s it was the era known as the post-World War II boom. They used this term to say that the economy was making great progress and was looking up.

Although wars were common and seemed important in the past, I never am the one advocating or encouraging all these fights and using wars to sort out disagreements. Not to be rude but seems childish and immature in a sense.

A point to notice within this era is that it was not just the end of the world wars but the booming of the suburbs and all about being a family and taking on family roles. An not to forget about the baby boom!

The baby boom began in the mid 1950’s when a record of 3.4 million babies were born in the U.S. Due to there not being a war anymore and couples were spending more time together at home it brought many of them to have children.

I am not going to lie that the suburbs and lots of children being born during this time period made me happy and excited for their future. I am sure they were happy that things seemed to be looking up as well.

This baby boom lasted until the mid-60’s, which I think is great. Many do speculate that there are too many people on earth and that we are overpopulating which reflects badly on our planet. I have to disagree with these people.

I think by decreasing the population it reflects badly on our economy and on earth. I also think by ending this war during the 1950’s, it caused many Americans to feel safe about bringing children to the world and were confident that the future held nothing but peace and prosperity.

Which they were right as there was never another war and lots of businesses were blooming, the construction of highways and schools increased, and money became stable for families. Lots of homes were being built as well.

The marketing was great catering towards the suburbs and the growing nation of children. Also, how it was cheaper to buy their own houses rather than rent an apartment in the city.

These are the reasons why people in the 1950's were doing better after World War II. I think this time period had many great positives.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...

1950s Common Alcohol Glasses

Many people drank lots of alcohol during the 50’s era. Mostly men though as woman would have been criticized if they drank too much. As they had to be sober and fully aware to take care of the children. One glass that is popular is the 1949 vintage whiskey glass. It is a small, but it can contain lots of alcohol. Many people like this whiskey glass because it can obtain lots of ice. Another widely talked about glass is the 1950 vintage wine cup.  This glass is popular because this caters to women who love wine. It can hold a good amount of white wine and red wine. Many people use this glass during parties and other gatherings. The scotch glasses are the most popular out of everyone of these cups mentioned. This is because lot of men used scotch glasses in the 1950’s. Especially for those who went to the local bars. Lastly, the beer pint glass is the next favorite for people who like to collect 1950’s cups or alcohol in general. This beer glass is clear and looks styli...
