5 Restaurants that Opened in the Fifties and are Still Around Today

1) Wendy's

Wendy's opened in 1969 and stayed open from then on still in 2021. Many of their customers choose from burgers, french fries, chili, drinks, and their special frosty.

In the 1960's, they did not have the same logo until it was created in 1969 and worded it with, "Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers." It stuck this way until 2007 when they stuck with only the company name Wendy's.

2) McDonald's

This fast food place was created in 1948 and they offered a simple selection for their customers including hamburgers and fries along with a drink. This tactic was gonna get them started and then progress into more meals and deserts.

Today compared to the 1950's people order fries, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, ice cream cones, chicken nuggets, etc. Back in the day, many people did not go through drive throughs but only to physically walk into these fast food restaurants and order a quick meal.

3) Chick-fil-A

This restaurant came into fusion in 1946 and has been alive on the streets today. Chick-fil-A was originally called, "Dwarf Grill."

Based on research the menus during the 50's did not have any pictures but many bulleted lists. The original menu had many items listed such as doughnuts, fried ham, and pimento cheese.

4) In-N-Out Burger

In-N-Out Burger was opened in 1948 and their menu consisted of burgers, fries, soda, and coffee. Lots of their prices were 10 cents to 40 cents.

The highest price was 40 cents for a cheese burger and their lowest was 10 cents for a soft drink. Based on from pictures this fast food restaurant does have a drive through.

5) Jack in the Box

This restaurant was created in 1951 and had menus on a big board on the side of the road of the company. They advertised they had large cold drinks for 15 cents, milk, tacos, apple turnovers, and more.

Their logo was not painted or created on the building but looked more like a Halloween prop. They visually had the restaurant quite bland and this is not shade but truth.

What Was Good About 1950's Cars?

I have to say that 1950’s cars look like they are from a whole different universe. What I love about these cars are the white streak around the front of each of the tires. You have many car brands such as the Packard, Mercury, Chevrolet Corvette, Hudson, Ford Thunderbird, Chevrolet Bel Air, Chrysler Imperial, Chrysler New Yorker, Buick Skylar, and more!  I personally have to say the Chevrolet Bel Air is my favorite looks wise. Many people who had cars in this era were more towards those with some wealth. I noticed that a lot of the percentage of people walked, biked, or took the bus to wherever they were going. Not everyone in the 1950’s had a car but those who did had some money. Lots of these cars were geared towards couples who had children as well. The cars back in this time period came in many colors, which I love! Today many people have bland colors on their cars. Which are their preference but cars with unique or cool colors really stand out. When looking through pictures of...

Women were Disowned for Having Children Out of Wedlock

Many women during the 1950’s gave up their children for adoption and it was mostly because of babies being born out of wedlock. Within this time ladies who got pregnant out of wedlock were shamed and disowned by their friends and families. They were considered a disgrace to the family to have a child before marriage. During this era, it was widely judged. Which I can understand why they would be disowned because they could not wait until marriage but on the other hand it happens sometimes. Many women gave up their babies up for adoption had the right to refuse to disclose the identity of the father. Lots of the ladies did choose to tell people who the father was but it was more common that the women refused to tell. Social workers at the time respected these women’s decisions about this situation. I personally have mixed emotions about this topic. I do not think that people should be ashamed for having children out of wedlock but still should be widely influenced to...

1950s Hairstyles That Were Popular and Easy

Thoughts on 50's Hairstyles Hairstyles back in this era were mostly shown of women with short curly hair.  They had big curls that made the volume in their hair rise and looked so shiny as well.  The women put curlers in their hair the night before while it was wet so once they took them out they would have lushish waves on the top of their heads. What is not talked about is that they did have long hair in this era.  Those who did produced the commercials and photoshoots just did not include these types of women/hairstyles as much. All of these women had lots of volume and head full of hair as well, I am quite jealous.  Those who had longer hair in the 1950's styled their hair with bigger curlers the night before as well.  I would have to say I love the look of both hairstyles and I found them so intriguing!  Women's Hairstyles in the 1950s Many of the women in this time period went for the short hair with curls as a way to look fancy and presentable....
