Husbands were Spoiled in the Mornings

This woman who produces this 1950's morning routine video did a great job of capturing this era's vibe.

She even made the effort to put the month, day, and year of the day she was recreating. It starts off with her sleeping in bed and acting like she is waking up.

In her view you can see her vanity mirror on her dresser and beautiful antique knickknacks. She even had her hair in what looks to be a cap.

I have seen many of these morning routines before and people in the 1950's always made their beds and took pride in their houses being spotless.

Continuing on, this women in the video does the opposite and pulls back the blanket to, "air out." This took me by surprise.

What I love though is that she is wearing a fancy adorable nightgown. Then she puts on a bed jacket and states these were very common in the 50's.

It looks to be about a lacy see through cover up and is transparent, it is hard to describe.

People in the 1950's always opened up their curtains and their windows to let in the crisp air.

Unless they lived in a place that was hot or during the summertime then they wouldn't. Many of the women washed their face and then choose to shower or bathe afterwards.

She goes on to talk about how the brand pears made a soap that was introduced to the public in 1807 and that this was another common item in the 1950's bathroom.

Women in the 50's used cold cream in the evening to remove makeup and in the mornings moisturizer was used.

Oil of ulan was the most used morning moisturizer for women and today it is called, "Olay." This item was introduced to the public in 1952.

After they were clean in the morning then it was on to make breakfast. These meals usually consisted of eggs and toast.

Then the women in this era would move onto preparing their husbands lunch for their workday. I assume when they had children they made their lunches for school as well.

One thing, I loved was how people in the mornings collected the newspaper. We do not use these anymore in 2021.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...
