People in the 1950's Were not Clean

This video starts off with a medical doctor reacting to 1950's health films. As usual they use a narrator over the film.

I would it was the trend back in the 50's to use narration for everything and I do like it in my opinion.

It starts off with the film of a young boy running with his dog and the reactor seems amused by this concept.

He pokes fun at the dogs name which was Mr.dorag. I have to agree that naming your dog this name is odd but it is cute as well.

Moves onto how back in the day there was an awareness for kids not to get overtired from playing too much outside.

In today's world children are more at home with their iPads or watching television all day and not ever outside anymore. This doesn't speak for all children but the majority.

The next film that should be discussed is how people used singing in commercials to spread awareness or to go along with a product someone is selling.

Which is not uncommon as we still use this tactic today but not as much as the 1950's.

One thing the reactor in this video said was how they needed a commercial about people washing themselves and learning about cleanliness.

I can see why they had a film about getting people to clean themselves more and to keep up with their hygiene.

As it was common that people got dirty more and they had less easy ways to clean themselves compared to today. I think some did not learn from their parents either.

There is another commercial that is worth mentioning is that this little kid was eating unhealthy all day and that is why his stomach hurts.

Which from the medical doctor states this is not true, he had symptoms of a viral gastroenteritis.

This means this little kid has the stomach flu and is not evidence of eating too much or too unhealthy.

The film that should be around in 2021 is the one about periods and how to prepare children for their menstrual cycles.

What to expect with a period and what to do to deal with period cramps, bloating, and backaches.

In all of this, the reactor was professional and had some great advice for people today.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...

1950s Common Alcohol Glasses

Many people drank lots of alcohol during the 50’s era. Mostly men though as woman would have been criticized if they drank too much. As they had to be sober and fully aware to take care of the children. One glass that is popular is the 1949 vintage whiskey glass. It is a small, but it can contain lots of alcohol. Many people like this whiskey glass because it can obtain lots of ice. Another widely talked about glass is the 1950 vintage wine cup.  This glass is popular because this caters to women who love wine. It can hold a good amount of white wine and red wine. Many people use this glass during parties and other gatherings. The scotch glasses are the most popular out of everyone of these cups mentioned. This is because lot of men used scotch glasses in the 1950’s. Especially for those who went to the local bars. Lastly, the beer pint glass is the next favorite for people who like to collect 1950’s cups or alcohol in general. This beer glass is clear and looks styli...
