The Strict Rules to Look Presentable

What is cool but shocking to me was how they made a film on how to be well groomed.

I cannot think of any other videos that would have a guide to be well taken care of and even how to stay clean like this.

I do not even think our generation today has a detailed video like this and teaching others to be well groomed.

The film starts out in a black and white filter and it was produced by Coronet Instructional Films.

It starts out with a woman in her nice high heels in the house and it looks like she does not have any tights on but seeing from this era, I think she does.

I noticed her hair is curled and her room is well presented and clean. She seems to be dusting her dress which could mean she's getting the lint off?

Dawn checks to make sure that her legs are shaved by leaning down and skimming her hand down her to her ankle.

Which indicates that she wants to make sure she has no hairs sticking out from her legs as it is not seen as looking presentable.

In this video, they put pressure on people at this time to look healthy, have good posture, cleanliness, and neatness.

Although I am not fond of how they show us viewers of how to be well-groomed since it seems we are talked down to like children but then again they want all ages to know the message regardless.

One thing I noticed is that people in the 1950's, seemed so proper and strict with everything.

Which can be a good thing and a bad thing as well.

In this case, I think it is good. Many in this era are set in their routines such as you have to to clean everyday and have to iron all your clothes every time they are dry.

What I love about these skits is that the husbands and wives are so respectful to each other and are modest as well.

They do not have any petty or rude tones when they ask each other to do any cleanly chores.

It is great how well they work together as well to keep things clean in there home and their selves clean too.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...

Many people drank lots of alcohol during the 50’s era. Mostly men though as woman would have been criticized if they drank too much. As they had to be sober and fully aware to take care of the children. One glass that is popular is the 1949 vintage whiskey glass. It is a small, but it can contain lots of alcohol. Many people like this whiskey glass because it can obtain lots of ice. Another widely talked about glass is the 1950 vintage wine cup.  This glass is popular because this caters to women who love wine. It can hold a good amount of white wine and red wine. Many people use this glass during parties and other gatherings. The scotch glasses are the most popular out of everyone of these cups mentioned. This is because lot of men used scotch glasses in the 1950’s. Especially for those who went to the local bars. Lastly, the beer pint glass is the next favorite for people who like to collect 1950’s cups or alcohol in general. This beer glass is clear and looks styli...
