Many women during the 1950’s gave up their children for adoption
and it was mostly because of babies being born out of wedlock.
Within this time ladies who got pregnant out of wedlock were
shamed and disowned by their friends and families.
They were considered a disgrace to the family to have a
child before marriage. During this era, it was widely judged.
Which I can understand why they would be disowned because
they could not wait until marriage but on the other hand it happens sometimes.
Many women gave up their babies up for adoption had the
right to refuse to disclose the identity of the father.
Lots of the ladies did choose to tell people who the father
was but it was more common that the women refused to tell.
Social workers at the time respected these women’s decisions
about this situation. I personally have mixed emotions about this topic.
I do not think that people should be ashamed for having
children out of wedlock but still should be widely influenced to have children
after they are married.
Many people during the 1950’s thought this was so bad, but
it was great for the couples who could not have children of their own.
These women who had babies before marriage and put them up
for adoption gave other couples who couldn’t have children a chance to raise kids.
To have a special bond that is so great and one that is to
be cherished.
Many people in the 50’s had strict rules to follow for their children but their kids tuned out to be very respectful to others and to be great future fathers and mothers themselves.
