1950's Best Commerials

This video starts off with a coca cola commercial and they have a physical narrator in frame. What I find good about this ad is how they relate the coke to real life events.

When I mean real life events is by how they showed a couple together in their home and the wife putting away the sodas in the fridge. Today many commercials do not relate to real life events and make us confused on what the product they were promoting.

I have seen some ads that are supposed to be about insurance but focused on how a guy does the splits instead. It just left me confused and had me thinking, what was that?

The next commercial is about jell-o. What is good about this is they went for a cartoon vibe and had a witty narrator. Although they did not have a physical narrator they still exectuted this well.

The story they were telling did relate to the product and was entertaining. I would say lots of the ads in the 50's were captivating and made people understand the product they were focusing on. I like they were making a story as if it were in a children's book.

Ritz Crackers commercial was interesting to watch as it was a man and a woman standing in different poses and had a voice over of men singing. Although it was an odd ad it did pull into what they were advertising.

If this ad were conducted today in the way it was in the 1950's, I do not think it would be approved to be viewed on television. They did do a good job of using body language.

Next, is the Tootsie Roll POP. It is great they used kids actors to advertise their lollipops and went with the concept that anyone can have them. I think it is known that you do not have to be rich to have candy. An it is not exclusive to a certain group.

Shasta Shampoo they did a great on showing how the product worked and how it does spread throughout the hair. A nice strategy by showing women washing their hair as they would be the ones using it the most.

What surprised me is that they wanted them to wrap their head in a hot towel for a few minutes, which I did not get the concept of that. Shampoo during this time, was only 9 cents.

There are many more commercials in this video that are great but I didn't want to make this post too long. If you would like to know more about them I posted the link.

1950's Western Women Hairstyles

I would say that women in the 1950’s had good hairstyles. You mostly see women with short hair than long. Do not get me wrong I have seen women with long hair, but it was rare since the trend at that time was to have short hair that was curly. I am a full supporter with women with dark brown hair with curls. I do like that they did not think of women with short hair as portraying too close to be looking like men or that they were copying their hairstyle. It is not a competition at all. All genders can choose to have their short or long if they wish too. Society did have the image that women with short hair were housewives, medium for young, and long for Hollywood pin ups. Which I do not think that women should abide by these. I am fond of women having short hair so that there is less to do with it. I am personally one who likes to keep her hair short as I do not have patience for long hair. When going to salons in the 1950’s it was a lot easier to style or cut someone’s hair...

Women were Disowned for Having Children Out of Wedlock

Many women during the 1950’s gave up their children for adoption and it was mostly because of babies being born out of wedlock. Within this time ladies who got pregnant out of wedlock were shamed and disowned by their friends and families. They were considered a disgrace to the family to have a child before marriage. During this era, it was widely judged. Which I can understand why they would be disowned because they could not wait until marriage but on the other hand it happens sometimes. Many women gave up their babies up for adoption had the right to refuse to disclose the identity of the father. Lots of the ladies did choose to tell people who the father was but it was more common that the women refused to tell. Social workers at the time respected these women’s decisions about this situation. I personally have mixed emotions about this topic. I do not think that people should be ashamed for having children out of wedlock but still should be widely influenced to...

What Was Good About 1950's Cars?

I have to say that 1950’s cars look like they are from a whole different universe. What I love about these cars are the white streak around the front of each of the tires. You have many car brands such as the Packard, Mercury, Chevrolet Corvette, Hudson, Ford Thunderbird, Chevrolet Bel Air, Chrysler Imperial, Chrysler New Yorker, Buick Skylar, and more!  I personally have to say the Chevrolet Bel Air is my favorite looks wise. Many people who had cars in this era were more towards those with some wealth. I noticed that a lot of the percentage of people walked, biked, or took the bus to wherever they were going. Not everyone in the 1950’s had a car but those who did had some money. Lots of these cars were geared towards couples who had children as well. The cars back in this time period came in many colors, which I love! Today many people have bland colors on their cars. Which are their preference but cars with unique or cool colors really stand out. When looking through pictures of...
