Old Magazines From the 1950's!

What I love from this video is that Jasmine is so smiley and happy in her video. You can tell she has such a great passion for the 1950’s.

Everything about this era seems to brighten her day. I love how she styles her hair like many in the 50’s.

She has the waves just like how Marylin Monroe did her hair. It was interesting to view a lot of these magazines that she choose to show her viewers.

How the covers are so different from magazines today. The quality of print on these look more like drawings on the inside and I am fond and here for this look.

What they have the same from our magazines today is they have the big title on the front and features a photo of people. Whether it be models, actresses, actors, etc.

I noticed that one of the magazines was priced at 20 cents and it seems so cheap compared to ones we buy at the store today. I bought a magazine for almost nine dollars and that was a Harry Styles Vogue one.

What surprised me about these 1950’s magazines was how bright and colorful they are. It seems as they wanted to catch people’s attention to influence many to buy these.

In today’s generation we have more neutral colors rather bright colors to catch many people’s attention to buy these types of magazines.

Inside of these some pages were of what looks like to be drawings and others are photos of people in a black and white filter. The wording at the top is big and bold and then they have a paragraph at the bottom.

I do have to say is that people who made these magazines in the 50’s did a great job of organizing the pages and putting them together nicely. Another page I’d like to mention was of a collage of photos many of them containing one woman.

They took the photo up close and others showed her whole body. These contained her playing tennis and posing in different areas.

Again, these magazines were nicely organized and well put together, I am very impressed. You can tell those who made these back in the 1950’s made great effort to produce quality gossip magazines.

The Story of Hilliard Brooks Jr's Murder

In 1950 on August 13, a 22-year old man named Hilliard Brooks Jr. was murdered on a bus after he was accused of making a disturbance.  Back in these days what was the disturbance, was he talking back because he had to stick up for himself or was it because he was protecting someone else?  Some reports were very unjust and plain unfair in my opinion.  The reason he was accused of this was because be refused to leave and enter from the rear bus as Jim Crow wanted him to.  This bus driver called the police and a white officer shot this black man and wounded two people in the process.  All because Jim Crow and the bus driver were trying to be big bosses and choose violence when they woke up that day.  Brooks left behind a pregnant wife and several young children. Even though many eye witnesses reported that the shooting was unnecessary, the officer faced no charges.  After this many people were outraged over how this all went down and set the stage for the...

Why Did Narrators From The 1950s Always Sound The Same?

Commercial radio broadcasting started within the 1920's and moved through the 1950's era.  Soon enough people listened less to the radio and went for televisions as they became cheaper.  This is because TV's back in the early 50's were very expensive that only the rich got to watch any shows or interviews. As you know lots of people tuned into the radio to hear about politics, Broadway shows, news broadcasts, and more to hear about what is going on in the world.  What is shocking to find out is that people who were in radio broadcasts and in motion picture films sounded so similar was because they were taught to speak a certain way.  Many people who taught what is called the transatlantic accent in radio and motion picture studios at the time.  When the radio was introduced to the world, microphones sounded tinnier and had a very different frequency.  Many companies wanted their speakers to adopt and accent so that they were heard clearly by the public and ...

Many people drank lots of alcohol during the 50’s era. Mostly men though as woman would have been criticized if they drank too much. As they had to be sober and fully aware to take care of the children. One glass that is popular is the 1949 vintage whiskey glass. It is a small, but it can contain lots of alcohol. Many people like this whiskey glass because it can obtain lots of ice. Another widely talked about glass is the 1950 vintage wine cup.  This glass is popular because this caters to women who love wine. It can hold a good amount of white wine and red wine. Many people use this glass during parties and other gatherings. The scotch glasses are the most popular out of everyone of these cups mentioned. This is because lot of men used scotch glasses in the 1950’s. Especially for those who went to the local bars. Lastly, the beer pint glass is the next favorite for people who like to collect 1950’s cups or alcohol in general. This beer glass is clear and looks styli...
